Manor Hill - Adaptive reuse, refurbishment and conservation

THE former home of the Little Sisters of the Poor – St. Joseph’s House on Manor Hill – is about to get a new lease of life, thanks to a a spectacular housing development that will bring 71 residential units to a site that has been empty, and falling apart since November 2010.
The building, a former convent that had been home to the Little Sisters since 1874, was in danger of slipping into disrepair, until it was purchased recently by the developers of this new project, W&S Investments Ltd. These local developers are currently in the process of transforming the old Ryan’s Bar on Barrack Street into new homes and they have devised a plan to build a mixture of high-quality apartments and housing units, within the existing buildings located throughout the St Joseph’s site, with a specific focus on assisted and elder living.
