Hotel design - Waterville, Co Kerry

We want to create a unique Architectural and interior design based on signature oceanic features for a boutique Hotel hideaway. Steeped in history and sitting on the Irish coastline the new Smugglers Hotel could be designed to offer a unique, 21st-century take on the intimate sea-side hotel of yesteryear. Smugglers Inn has a rich history and unique story which should be told as part of its marketing/branding design and interior design.
Cleverly designed interiors will draw the landscape and seascape inwards using natural materials and warm and inviting furnishings which create an extremely relaxing and luxurious environment.
Designing a hotel is as complex a task as any designer can have because you have to imagine how the visitor will feel as they inhabit the space that you will create for them. With the Smugglers Inn what we want to achieve is to constantly ‘bring back memories’ for the guest, long after they have returned home. Guests want to ‘escape to a real place’ where they feel an authentic and uncontrived experience. The Design style should be simple and elegant. It’s about the comfort and coziness of being there especially in the winter which is a big market in Ireland. A combination of physical elements and the personal experiences of the overall ambience combined to such an extent that guests don’t have to realise consciously that they
are having an enjoyable time. However, they should feel it afterwards, having been uplifted by the entire experience.
Letting people escape and unwind – The goal is to help people shake off their day or week. Everything is orientated around the location; the location is everything in this design.

We used our Virtual Reality design process on Smugglers Inn project also so our client fully understood his new hotel fit-out and extension instead of trying to image it from drawings.
At MDP, we believe Virtual Reality is almost a translation of what’s in the designer’s head and allows them to put their ideas in front of clients and any project stakeholder without any ambiguity – MDP is all about new tools and been innovative, and exploring ways to increase our abilities to design. – It’s literally adding another dimension to our design. VR is a new tool that adds the idea of scale that we haven’t had before. It’s another exciting tool that increases our power to conceptualize and iterate ahead of actually having to build something in the real world.
